2008
marks the first edition of the U.S. Bank Rim Rock Run, as well
as the sixteenth year for the race. We are proud to announce
U.S. Bank as the official title sponsor of the Rim Rock Run. The
U.S. Bank Rim Rock Run is one of America's most scenic runs; the
course takes you from high desert through red rock canyons,
majestic mesas, and towering rock monoliths. The starting time
is 8:00 a.m., Saturday, November 8, at the East (Grand
Junction side) entrance to the Colorado National Monument.
Due to
Park Service limitations, the race is limited to the first 400
runners so please register early!
There
is limited parking at the start and finish of the race. Buses will
start loading from Rimrock Adventures parking area at 6:15
a.m. Rimrock Adventures, 927 Hwy 340 (also known as Broadway),
is located 1.3 miles south of Interstate 70, Exit 19 (Fruita).
The last bus will leave no later than 7:15 a.m. Runners must
provide their own transportation to Rimrock Adventures. Spectators
may park near the start to watch the race begin. To watch
the finish they must park at Rimrock Adventures and take the
shuttle van to the finish. Runners parking at the start
must provide their own transportation back to the start after
they finish.
Rimrock
Adventures is one mile from the Rim Rock Run finish.
Vans will shuttle runners back to Rimrock Adventures
after the run.
Please
remember to run in the RIGHT-hand lane of the road at all
times. The left lane is open to traffic! Runners crossing
the centerline into the left lane will be disqualified. Bib numbers must
be visible when crossing the finish line in order for the timing/results
to work correctly. The course will be closed after five hours.
Runners still on the course after five hours will be given the
option of a ride to the finish or finish on the course
which will then be open to traffic in both directions.
If you are on the course after five hours please cross over
to the left-hand side of the road, facing traffic.
Our insurance
prohibits bicycles, dogs, roller blades, and baby joggers on
the course with the runners. Because of congestion at the
finish, we request that you ask family and friends to leave their dogs
at home when they come to support you.
If you
want to send clothes to the finish, place them in a bag
marked with your race number. Your race packet bag can be
used as a clothes bag. You must write your bib number on
your bag. Bags will also be available at the starting line. Before
the race, put your clothes bag in the designated area. The bags will be sorted and waiting for
you at Rimrock Adventures at the end of the run.
Discard clothing during the run at
your own risk!
Nine aid stations will be vying for the title
of Best Aid Station, which is decided by you, the runners.
After you have completed the course, we ask that you cast your vote for the
aid station that did the best job of serving your needs and
inspiring you to complete the race. The coveted traveling
trophy will be awarded to the Best Aid Station.
The original
vision of the race committee was to create a gate-to-gate
Monument run - a beautiful, challenging, and fun-filled event.
Monument brochures refer to the U.S. Bank Rim Rock Run route as a 23-mile
drive, hence the 37K. The official measurement determined
the route to be about 1900 feet short of 23 miles. There will
be accurately placed mile markers along the course. The distance
from the last mile marker (at 22 miles) to the finish is about
0.6 miles.
As you
cross the finish line, you will be given a Finisher's gift. You can
then take the shuttle van to the refreshment
tent at Rimrock Adventures. The First Aid tent at the finish area is
for runner recovery prior to the short shuttle to Rimrock
Adventures.
The
shuttle van driver will give you a ballot to vote for the
Best Aid Station. After you fill out the ballot you
can give it back to the shuttle driver or take it to the refreshment
tent and put it on the table where the ballots are
being collected.
Also in
the tent, near the age group award table, you will find a survey asking where you stayed the
night before and how you heard about the run. Your comments
and suggestions are welcome.
Awards
will be presented to the overall winners on the stage next to (or inside of depending on the weather) the Rimrock
Adventures tent at noon. Age group awards will be available
at the awards table in the tent after you have finished the
run. The Best
Aid Station trophy will be awarded at 1:30 p.m.
This race benefits the Mesa State Women's Cross Country
Team as well as other local beneficiaries. By entering this race, you are supporting
them.
Race
results will be available on
this web site shortly after the race.
A special
thanks to our sponsors who
appreciate your patronage.
